I am Freya, and I have sung in more courts than I will admit to, some of them still standing. I learned early that a tale is a kind of invitation: you lean in a little, I lower my voice a little, and neither of us mentions how late it has become. Ember Court Dispatches is that invitation, written down one chapter at a time.

The story follows a healer who was cast out of the royal household for a crime she may or may not have committed, and an envoy from a distant realm who has never once shown his face in company. Between them lie poisoned goblets, enchanted candles, a queen who collects secrets the way others collect jewels, and a slow-burning attraction that both of them are far too clever to admit. Expect silk, shadow and a great deal of unspoken things. The tension is the point, and the doors close before anything is shown.
